My Switch to Apple

Friday, December 1st, 2006

Make that… my gradual swith to Apple laptop hardware.
My wife’s Dell laptop is officially dead. The socket that the power adaptor plugs into doesn’t seem to provide power to the motherboard. We tried several other power cord/adaptors. I assumed there was some loose connection or cracked solder point. We even [...]

via digg:
These lectures are a great way to keep your mind sharp during your daily commute or while exercising. Some of the lectures lend themselves to this better than others. I’m not sure how much I would get out of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology I while driving in heavy traffic, [...]

Easy

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Tanya, Jim and I went to the Barenaked Ladies concert last Friday. It was great! I can’t get their new song “Easy” out of my head. Here’s the video:

Besides their music, I like how the Barenaked Ladies are offering their latest album, “Barenaked Ladies Are Me” as a download from their website [...]

All Your Power Are Belong To Us

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

The power has gone out several times in the past few weeks. I go from an 8MB internet connection to reading by candle-light in seconds. It’s amazing how much we rely on electricity. Even when I know the power is out, I still find myself flipping light switches as if I expected [...]

John C. Dvorak on Net Neutrality and Senator Ted Stevens’s idiocy

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

The Net neutrality bill took kind of a weird turn despite its defeat, when the public got to hear the mouthpiece for the telecom industry, Senator Ted Stevens. [...] It seems like a miracle that he can even find the crapper.

The server is coming along nicely… It’s taken some time to get used to Linux (all over agian). I had a difficult time getting the right apache directives to allow mod_rewrite to work correctly. It turns out I needed Options +FollowSymLinks in order for it to work…
Anyway, I should updating more regularly [...]

SuSE 10.1

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

I’ve been trying to change the server from Windows XP to SuSE 10.1. So far, it’s been pretty smooth. There’s just a few glitches here and there. For example, mod_rewrite on Apache doesn’t seem to work… All the permalinks within the blog are broken. With MPCon comin’ up, [...]

Germany Trip

Monday, May 8th, 2006

I leave for Germany today on the DaimlerChrysler corporate jet for a week-long business session. The eight and a half hour flight wont be as bad on the Airbus A319 — it’s all business-class seating. There are only 4 seats across, two on each side. I’m hoping to be able to sleep [...]

MPCon Signups Open

Monday, May 1st, 2006

Signups for MPCon XVI are open! MPCon is Michigan’s largest LAN Party. (I happen to run it.) The next event is June 16 - 18. We’ve opened up additional seats to bump the total past 200 seats! We’re also going to improve our network speeds with the support of a gigabit backbone.
