Intoducing Origami
Channel9 has an interview posted with Otto Berkes, General Manager of the Ultra-Mobile PC team at Microsoft. He talks about the “Origami” project. It’s basically a mini tablet PC. It still runs full-blown Windows. To get an idea of what it might be used for, watch a video of Intel’s version. What would it be used for? The video shows PDA functionality, built in WiFi, GPS… even a camera. You can play games, watch movies, TV, and music. Since it’s running Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, it has all the “inking” capability. To me, all the technology is almost there, but not quite. For a device like this to work, you need battery life, wifi access everywhere, and services built around it. It’s still nice to see technology companies moving forward and pushing those technologies to thier limits.
