Stolen Credit Card Number

I had a message waiting for me as I got home from work, today. It was an automated alert that my credit card number had been stolen! My first response was to check and see if there were any fraudulent charges. Everything looked fine. What a pain, though… The account was closed. A new card & number will be mailed tomorrow. Could have been worse, I suppose.

    Hopefully not a phishing scam.

I thought it might be a phishing scam too, at first. The initial call just said that credit card number ending with “1234″ (or whatever it was) had been conpromised. It gave me a 1-800 number to call with a confirmation number. When I called, all I had to do was enter the confirmation number. It never asked me to enter the full card number. It just said “push 1 to close the account — a new card number will be issued”.
