Invasion

Asian Lady BeetleAfter work today, I noticed a red swarm by the enterance to the parking garage. When I got home, there were tons of ‘em on the windows and near the doors. Apparently, these multicolored asian lady beetles seek shelter in autum for hibernation. If the air is warm enough (like today was), they tend to move about and fly around living spaces. Luckily, they don’t eat wood or other building materials, or even human food. In fact, they don’t consume any food while overwintering. They’ve already had their fair share of their usual diet of aphids and other soft-bodied insects. Also, they don’t carry diseases, and do not breed or reproduce in structures.

What to do if they come in-doors? Suck them up with a vacume. If you try and swat at them or crush them, they’ll intentionally bleed on you as a defence mechanism. Their body fluid has a bad oder, and can stain walls and carpeting, etc.
