Michigan courts Japanese biotech investment

InfoWorld:

The governor of the State of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm, met with Japanese biotechnology and life sciences companies this week as part of an effort to turn [Michigan] into a biotech hub.

[The initiatives] include the creation of 11 geographic zones attached to universities in which startups will be created to develop commercial products from research. There is also a technology alliance between the universities that are focused on commercializing research, and a technology corridor for biotech and life sciences companies.

“This diversification effort is serious.” said Granholm. She’s asked the state legislature to create a $2 billion fund to invest in cutting-edge technology businesses.

This sounds like good news to me!
