Google unleashed a beta version of its video-hosting service yesterday. Users can upload videos of any size and Google will host it for free. Amazing as that is, it isn’t the most interesting feature. It also will allow you to charge whatever you want for users to download the videos.
The implications of this are utterly staggering.
If Google adds RSS capability, it could be the thing that makes videocasting, video blogs, vlogs (whatever you want to call them) possible. Currently, the costs associated with hosting large video files has limited online content. With that out of the way, I wouldn’t be surprised to see bloggers posting video of breaking news before CNN gets to it. Not too far behind will be home-made shows (e.g. thebroken, systm, etc.). Imagine subscribing to the various shows you want. As soon as a new show is posted, your PC will download it, ready to be watched whenever you want. I can’t wait!
