SBC has agreed to acquire it’s former parent AT&T for $16 billion (you gotta say it like Dr. Evil). Lucent Technologies was spun off in 1995, Comcast bought AT&T’s cable systems, Cingular Wireless recently bought AT&T Wireless… Does this mean the AT&T name will be gone? AT&T once controlled 83% of all U.S. telephones, 98% of all long-distance telephone lines, and manufactured 90% of all U.S. phone equipment.
